Funtastic in First: Writing Focus: Biographies

We have had lots of fun writing biographies in class. The students were partnered up and given the task of interviewing their partners, and writing both a rough and final draft.

Curriculum

We have now started having a weekly spelling list. The list will come home on Mondays in your child's backpack as well as posted on the blog. The test will be on Fridays.

In Chapter 6 we will be working with numbers and Place Value. The vocabulary for this chapter includes: digit, ones and tens. Please check your child's backpack nightly for math homework.

All students will be placed in a reading group at school that is appropriate. Students will also be bringing home a level appropriate book to read at home. First graders are expected to read for at least 20 minutes, 5 times per week.

We will be working on the following during the coming weeks for Science and Social Studies: Community Helpers, Penguins and Winter.
